Night Out in Cabo

Night Out in Cabo is a large mixed media abstract painting done on a built wooden panel. During a visit to Cabo, I was inspired by one of the many artists showcasing his works. He beautifully combined leather and paint to depict his take on Mexico. It reminded me of why I loved focusing on mixed media in art school. 

After sourcing repurposed deer leather scrapes, I began layering the leather on the panel we built. The different shapes began creating a textured story within themselves. I then layered different colors of paint, sanding them down to let the leather show through. Night Out in Cabo was born. It represents the calm yet vibrant air of the night walking through the downtown streets of Cabo.
